The Philippines and China have agreed not to let disputes in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) affect friendly relations, the two countries said in a joint statement Friday.

“The two sides reaffirmed their commitments to respect and abide by the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea,”  they said after Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in Beijing.

The declaration signed in 2002 between China and the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations seeks to resolve their territorial disputes by peaceful means and in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

“Both ministers exchanged views on the maritime disputes and agreed not to let the maritime disputes affect the broader picture of friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” the statement said following the three-hour talks at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing Friday afternoon.

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping described the meeting as “productive”.

“China is committed to remain a good neighbor, a good friend and a good partner with the Philippines,” Xi was quoted by the official Xinhua News Agency as saying.

The two countries agreed to “maintain close political cooperation including high-level visits and defense and security cooperation.”

Del Rosario flew to China on Yang’s invitation Thursday amid rising tensions over the two countries’ conflicting claims in the potentially resource-rich Spratly Islands.

The Philippines has previously accused Chinese forces of opening fire on Filipino fishermen, shadowing an oil exploration vessel employed by a Philippine firm and putting up structures in Manila-claimed areas in the Spratlys.

Funny how the Philippine Daily Inquirer uses the term West Philippine Sea and yet inserts South China Sea in parenthesis right after that term.

I must say though, this development somehow eases the tension caused by the Spratlys dispute. Let’s hope there would be lesser saber rattling and more diplomatic talking in the days to come.

I am glad that we have our own happy lives now. :) Thinking of you and recovering for more than a year, is not worth of being in my memory. Shall dump those times, as if everything has not happened.

Pagpasensyahan ninyo kung di ko man nasasabi ang aking mga problema sa inyo sapagkat ang mga ito ay lubhang napakselan. Tanging sarili ko lamang ang makakakita at makakahanap nang solusyon.

Totoong minsan, dumadating ang mga gabi na halos ang iniisip ko ay kayo. nagtataka kung kamusta na ang mga kuya’t ate kong abala sa kani-kanilang mga trabaho at pagrerebyu para sa examinasyong propesyonal. Takot na hindi kayo makita ay minsan ko na ding tiniis, kasabay nang pag-agos nang luha sa aking mga mata. 

Tunay GAYSES na walang katumbas ang pagkakaibigan natin. Ipinapadama at ipinapamulat ninyo sa akin ang kasiyahan nang mundo, malayo sa pagiging teknikal ko, idinadaan sa ngiti’t kain ang bawat problema at dinadamayan ng buong husay ang nangangailangan nang kalingang galing sa isang kaibigan.

Nagpapasalamat ako sapagkat sa kabila nang maling desisyon na aking nagawa, patuloy na ako’y inyong tinanggap, walang alinlangan at duda. at sa pagkakataong ito, sa muling pagsisimula ko bilang isang kaibigan, kapatid at indibidwal na bumubuo sa GAYSES, aking ipinipangako na HINDI KO KAYO IIWAN at sasamahan ko kayo sa paglalakbay dito sa mundo hanggang sa huling bugto nang aking hininga.

Aking tatanggapin ang bawat payo, pangaral at pagmamahal na siyang ititimo ko sa aking puso at isipan. Gayon din ang mga ituturong mga bagay bagay na siyang magpapaunlad at magpapatatag sa akin bilang isang indibidwal. Umaasa ako na magiging masaya ang bagong simulang ito hanggang matapos ang nobela. Magpapakatatag ako! Kaya to. (pasama ah? hehe)
